The Givers, The Takers and The In Betweens

I always thought this notion of Give and Take in relations is so mean and being selfless is sign of true love and care. There might be others who will agree on this. We see it in movies and read it in novels but then LIFE happens.

The givers are those, who constantly give either their time or  attention and fulfill requests of those who are in need without even thinking about themselves. People like them because they are facilitating and flexible. They enjoy this popularity and continue to entertain others. The takers are those, who will use every opportunity to gain what others can offer, but will never return the favour. And then, there are In betweens. These people give you what they can, and also take from you.

The givers will, some time in the long run, realize that they can't give more. They will feel empty and exhausted and thus will need to take a break or perhaps change their behaviour. And when they do change, it will backfire at them. People will blame them and they won't be liked for this. The takers might always get what they want, but they will not be much liked by people. They might realize this some day and feel disappointed, but there are chances they may never realize this.

The most satisfied people would be the In betweens. They are happy to help you as well as they don't shy away from asking for help. They take care of others, but they know their own needs are also important. And I think, that's exactly how relations work. It is give and take. An imbalance will always lead to conflicts. Create healthy boundaries, take what you need and only what others can offer; while at the same time be ready to give whatever you are capable of, but without feeling drained.

People might have different roles with different people depending upon the needs but the one that is going to sustain longer is the one where there are two In betweens, balancing the equation on both sides.
